La "Puerta del Infierno"

Durante una prospección de gas en el desierto de Karakum, entonces región de Turkmenistán en la antigua Unión Soviética, junto a la pequeña aldea de Darvaza, un grupo de geólogos soviéticos encontraron algo sorprendente.

Fue en 1971 cuando los geólogos observaron aterrorizados como se hundía el sueño y se tragaba las tiendas y la maquinaria de la expedición, y se formaba un pozo o cráter de 60 metros de diámetro y 20 de profundidad.

Lo que en verdad habían encontrado era una cueva subterránea completamente llena de gas natural, y lo supieron una vez que le prendieron fuego. Hasta ahora no para de arder y quienes lo observan se maravillan de tan majestuoso espectáculo.

Así el el pozo o crater de Darvaza continua ardiendo y es una atracción turística conocida como el crater o pozo de Darvaza o Puerta del Infierno.
